The effect of Volunteer Work Commitment on Psychological Well-being for the profession retiree and retirement expectant men: Verification of the mediating effect of Social Resource and Volunteer Work Activity

Abstract
The objective of this study was to verify the mediating effect of social resources and volunteer activity on the relationship between volunteer work commitment and psychological well-being of male volunteer groups divided into professional retirees and prospective retirees. To achieve the goal, a survey research was performed for men of 284 between the ages of 55 ~ 59 in Seoul, Kyunggi distinct. SPSS were applied in technical statistics, and the Regression Analysis was performed. The results of the study are: Firstly, among the professional retirees, with respect to volunteer work commitment and psychological well-being, the role of social resources, such as their contacts between family, friends and their neighbors as well as their attendance at formal and informal gatherings, and the roles of their social functions are proved to be vital in personal growth and their purpose of life. Secondly, with respect to the volunteer commitment and psychological well-being, the period of volunteer works proved to be vital to the purpose of their living, whereas the prospective retirees regard that as a secondary factor for their purpose of living. This study suggests that developing support systems for services to maintain the levels of volunteer works, as well as developing programs to decrease the volunteer work¡¯s burnout are necessary.
